IGNACIO GUERRAS, PRESIDENT OF MADRID’S GOLF FEDERATION
Ignacio Guerras has been elected President of Madrid’s Golf Federation for the fourth time, and he’ll be holding this position for the next four years after being chosen by the Constituent Assembly of the Federation.
His past years leading the Federation have been a success, probably that is one of the main reasons why he has been elected again. Firstly, the number of federated golfers have nearly double its amount from less than 50,000 to up to more than 80,000. We also see how they’ve improved from the past years in the number of tournaments in which the federation started to participate, going to no more than 30 tournaments per year and up to this day they play in more than 200 tournaments.
This increase in the volume of people, tournaments and requirements they have to handle, led the federation to the need of extending their employee workforce from barely 3 to more than 40 people working. Although the overall picture seems very satisfying it has been a hard work from all the management team and therefore they been rewarded with four more years of constant dedication to the golf world.
Their motto has been and will also be for the next years “GOLF FOR EVERYBODY” and more than a motto it has become an obsession for the Federation. Their main goal has been to stablish the idea in the general society that golf is accessible for everyone, specially for younger golfers. They’ve implanted golf programs in mora than 50 different schools and the demand hasn’t stopped growing, even though the crisis has affected all, but through the passion created in children, Madrid’s Golf Federation wants to attract also the eyes and interest of parents and friends.
These next final four years, because he has already confirmed that this is going to be his last term after what will add up to sixteen years defending and fighting for golf in Madrid, are going to be for closure of many of the projects that have been going on so far. He has compromised his entire life to make us understand that golf is more that a sport, its also an industry that generates direct or indirectly jobs and therefore wealth for the region of Madrid.
Today we wanted not only to pay a special tribute to his impeccable job leading the Federation but also his idea of boosting the specialty of Pitch & Putt in Madrid. The main goal of this is, in a city where you are constantly rushing from one place to another and in a hurry, this type of game allows you to finish the 18 holes in less time that you are used to, because distances are usually much shorter than the traditional 18 holes game.
This years Pitch & Putt Circuit will be held in the following golf courses: Golf Negralejo, Golf Olivar de la Hinojosa, Las Rejas, CTG, Green Paddoc, Las Encinas de Boadilla, RACE, Lomas-Bosque, Golf Colmenar and CCVM.
If you want to discover these and many other golf courses in Madrid, being the only European city with top notch golf courses near the city center.
