MADRID CHALLENGE TOUR RESULTS

Golf in Madrid

During this sunny warm weekend we enjoyed golf in Madrid thanks to exhibition of all of the participants of the Pro-Am Madrid’s Challenge, the third competition of the European Challenge Tour.

This year took it place in Real Club Golf la Herrería, who’s celebrating their 50th anniversary. Enrique Gil and its team deserve a special mention for their wonderful job in organizing it, with precision and efficiency, ten years after hosting this competition for the fist time. They organized different activities, complementary to the competition, like allowing more than 300 students from schools all over Madrid, participating in Golf Programs, visit the tournament. The reason for this is to keep on working to make this sport a little less unknown and encourage young students to become de best golfers in Madrid.

There were three men that stood out from the rest of their competitors: Duncan Stewart (-8), who actually won the competition, did a flawless lest round with 66 shots; Ben Stow (-7), ended second in the leaderboard, although he was the clubhouse leader on sever under par; and last but not least, the Spanish great promise, Pep Anglés (-6), ended third, but nevertheless he was able to entertain all of us, with a risky but precise game. He was unable to conquer the trophy, after carding a one under par 69, which turns out to end with a disadvantage of one putt of the final score.

Our next Spanish golfer in the leaderboard is found in ninth position, after a draw of five other golfers, is Carlos Balmaseda (-3), who ended with a total of 277 points. The best representative of the golf in Madrid. With the same score we find Alfredo García-Heredia. On the other hand, our best know golfers, Javier Colomo (0), down to positon 23, or Pedro Oriol (+1) position 27, didn’t do so well.

As we know, only the best 15 will be able to reach the final competition taking place in Oman. So after this weekends competition the Road to Oman Raking stands like this: in fist place, Sebastian Soderberg, representing Sweden, with 37,665 points; in second place Romain Langasque, France, with 31,892 points and holding on to that third position is Jordan Smith, British golfer, that won last week’s Egyptian tournament.

For now, we only have one Spanish representative, Pep Angéls, who has been able to enter, after his impressive results of this weekend, the top 15. He came to this competition after finishing 19th at the Real Club Valderrama Open de España. This tournament is hosted by the Sergio García Foundation, that was held last month on the European Tour.
