SEGWAYS IN MADRID
After playing some golf in Madrid’s magnificent golf courses you might have some spare time to spend visiting the city. As we’ve describe it several times, Madrid is a really interesting city full of things to entertain yourselves with. It has an extended cultural and artistic heritage in every corner of its city center.
Madrid combines perfectly its historical architecture with the most modern facilities. But walking around the city turns out to be really tiring, even more after being all morning playing golf. Its not as big as other European cities but its wide variety of things to enjoy makes it really hard to visit them in an afternoon or even in a whole weekend.
That’s why this week we wanted to present you an awesome alternative that would make your life much easier whilst visiting Madrid: The Segway Tours. In 2004 these personal transporters arrived in Madrid and since then they’ve only gained more and more followers.
The Segway is an electrical transport which is managed by the movement of our body. It’s not only used by tourists is has only been a great help for armed forces like police officers or the military, for big industries or even in universities, airports or big storage facilities. There are multiple reasons for that: you can be more efficient because you spend less time moving around, since its elevated from the ground you have better visibility of what is around you; The fact that is 100% electrical is also good for the environment, plus it’s not that expensive since it doesn’t use gas, just a rechargeable battery that will last up to 8 to 10 hours.
And above all those wonderful assets its super easy to manage the Segway, the most important thing is to relax and let yourself go, trust your instincts. If your instincts aren’t the best, before every tour the guide will give you a small workshop in order to learn and practice before you go around the city.
The companies specialized in this kind of tours have already tours prepared to see the most important sightseeing spot of the city, such as: a tour that passes by the most important building and monuments (the Royal Palace, the Plaza Mayor, Cibeles fountain, Gran Vía, etc.), the Real Madrid Tour, a tour where you can explore the Casa de Campo park, a tour along Madrid’s river the Manzanares or even a tour through the Retiro Park.
It’s much better than taking the sightseeing bus because with the Segway you are allowed to pass through pedestrian streets and you can move around, mingle and get to know hidden wonderful corners of the spectacular city of Madrid.
Most of these tour will include: a multilingual guide – two if the group is big enough, a helmet for safety, an optional reflective vest, a workshop to get used to the Segway, a liability insurance and in case it rains a rain jacket.
Although it’s not very common to see them in Madrid’s golf courses yet, it is a rising trend. For many different reasons: because it reduces the time that you spend walking from one hole to the next one making it a more dynamic game. Its more silent that the buggies and since you are a little bit higher from the ground it also improves the visibility of the great vies of most of Madrid’s golf courses. And just like in the city, it helps to keep up with the caring of the environment since it does not emit any greenhouse gases nor leaves a print on the course.
Don’t think it twice and hop on to one of these modern electrical transport system and enjoy the city of Madrid!
